22nd June 2014 .. micro ID and trap latest

Another warm, calm night with plenty of action around the traps.
This Agonopterix species was potted up......

Probably A. heracliana although it is out of season, but what isn't this year ?
Only 2 others are similar, ciliella, which is also out of season, and cnicella which is flying in June but is a coastal species that has not been recorded in Bedfordshire VC30.
The forewing length is 9.5mm so all three fall into the size range.
One for our micro man.

Another micro which I haven't ID'd is this worn example below ....

I've brightened up the photo to try and pick out some detail.
Another for our micro man.
A few more for the year list from last night .....
998 Pandemis heparana

868 Helcystogramma rufescens

1336 Eudonia pallida

2011 Pale Prominent

2198 Smoky Wainscot

Broad-barred White
Small Ranunculus

Eyed Hawk-moth

Ethmia Quadrillella

19th June 2011

It was all going well until the clouds cleared and temps dropped from 14 deg to just 7 deg. Is it really June ?
The 100th micro was not to be, but 3 more macros were added to the year list.
BUFF ARCHES 1653

SMOKY WAINSCOT 2198.. Thanks to Captain Trappings who pointed out that it was not a Common Wainscot.

MOTTLED BEAUTY 1941... only my second record TOTALS :- 255 species (158 macro, 97 micro)

I built a nest box on the inside of my shed and have had the local Blue Tits nest in it on two previous occasions.

Not this year, it is chock full of common wasp nest which will be on the local schools nature table in November/December. I will have to be wary when I check the shed lights in Aug/Sep...they seem to sting for fun at that time of year !

July 3rd.......V-Day

Another great night for "mothing". Three more garden firsts and a good selection found in and around the 3 traps. 60+ species found. Here are a few of the macro moths from last night, I haven't started sorting out the PUGS and the micros yet.
