I've been keeping an eye out for the migrant Pearly Underwing, which are very similar to Turnip moth.
After checking out Tony Morris's blog, Mothing at the hidden house, a useful pic of the "punk mohican hairstyle" of a Pearly Underwing had been posted, so I have posted a Turnip Moth comparison from last nights catch .....
.....The other way to tell them apart is to check the hindwings but the hairdo seems to be a good fieldmark.

2nd July 2013 ... Le Shark
The all night heavy rain that the Met forecast gave missed Biggleswade, apart from a shower that dampened the floor level egg boxes in the traps.
Conditions were warm and humid and the medium monsoon that was blowing earlier in the evening died down to a gusty breeze, perfect conditions for The Dells town garden, which always seems to benefit from a light/medium wind, especially from a South or south-west direction, I then get the "blow-ins" that come across from the nearby railway line with its natural valley of grassy banks, native shrubs/wildflowers and copses.
The Emeralds have made a show with Common, Small and a Light Emerald which is unrelated.
Chamomile Shark was a good earlier record, and now its close relative The Shark can join it on the garden year list .....

Small Talk
The last two nights have cooled down and it looks like the rain is returning for the forthcoming week.
Moth numbers are well down, with a predominance of Underwings and tired looking Uncertain types.
Nothing new for a couple of nights but still getting Small Ranunculus and round two of Toadflax Brocade.
Highlights from 27th/28th July:-
Small Ranunculus...locally common at The Dells garden
Small Emerald turn up in two's and three's
Small Blood-vein, another regular, haven't seen a big Blood-vein since 2010

A site first this year and this is my 5th...
