19th April '16 - Latest garden moth trap results

Despite the 2.4 deg min temp. and a near full waxing moon there were a few moths about.
Pale Mottled Willow was expected, Nutmeg was another year first and Mullein was a good find.
Another cold snap is heading our way by the weekend and could persist for a few nights but the next two days look promising in the VC30 area.

7th June ... Garden Moths latest ...

On the chilly side last night with the minimum temp. at just under 8 degrees but with a fresh feel to it.
Plenty of moths though with 27 species recorded plus a year first Nettle-tap that was netted early evening.
My least favourite moth turned up on the Hebe bush flowers,Large Yellow Underwing, the Lepicockroach !

Moth numbers on the up

Compared to the last few weeks, last night was almost a moth-fest.
Overcast, humid and a minimum overnight temperature of 8 deg saw 60 moths of 24 species come to the traps.
The night started off on the right note with Tinea pellionella flying around my computer screen for an easy year tick.
My late afternoon check of the interior sides of the shed windows reaped a reward as Mompha epilobiella was found amongst the many Mompha subbistrigella.

18th May 2013 ... Garden trap latest

The weather was much better last night, temps fell to an overnight low of 8 deg but the difference was it actually FELT like 8 deg but the week ahead looks naff with chilly northerly winds forecast until at least thursday.
Quite a good selection of species were recorded last night including a new micro for the garden.
