7th July '15 Just another mother

Mother of Pearl that is.
My attempt at 300 species before my holidays looked an easy target last week, but there has been a gradual slowing down with the cooler spell of weather.
I'm currently sitting on 296 species and tonight is the last trap night before jetting off to Grand Cayman for a week and then to the mountains in North Carolina.
It's alright for some.
There is a portable "Ratface Traveller" trap waiting for me in Cayman which will also pack away comfortably in a suitcase for the USA too, so hopefully I'll be able to post something a little more exotic, if it is still working.
Anyway, back to the Mother of Pearl.
This was the only new moth for the year leaving me 4 species to trap tonight for the 300, and it's a little cool out there at the mo.

8th July
Quite a chilly night with temps dipping to 9.3 deg C.
Only two to add
0427 Yponomeuta cagnagella, 1,  Spindle Ermine

2349 Mere Wainscot. 1
But I may get a couple of hours trapping tonight before I grab some sleep for the early start to Heathrow in the morning.
The Mere Wainscot had escaped from the trap by this morning so no photo.
I don't have a problem ID'ing these however, and I got a good look at it last night..
This particular one was rufous-brown coloured with dark veins down the fore wing, some are much paler as the ground colour can vary quite a bit.
So, 298 with two to go and it's a bit warmer tonight.
I'll give it to 11.30 pm.

23rd June 2014 .. More additions to year list

Yet another bumper night.
Around 90 species were recorded on a calm, warm evening with plenty of humidity, moth heaven.
New for year species were Yponomeuta evonymella, Limnaecia phragmitella, Pleuroptya ruralis, Pempelia formosa, Trachycera advenella, Lesser Yellow Underwing and Shark.
Plus a small Cnephasia species to be checked, given its small size I would hazard a guess at Cnephasia incertana or asseclana.
There is also a small, dark tortrix to be ID'd
The newcomers pics ...
From top to bottom as listed.

17th July .. Speaking of wine bet !

Wine bet :-
Following yesterdays update, last night was a disaster as The Captain and Crew enjoyed a stonking night, 10 new macros for the year.
Luckily I got a couple of year firsts to stay just 1 point ahead ...
....................................................................................................................
17th July 2012. Warm and calm, gusty wind later.
Maybe a site first Drinker will be a good omen for the wine !

450 ... Scythropia crataegella *year first

...... and a new moth for The Dells garden

The Dells latest

Nothing new in the garden for the past two nights. The trap has been under cover which restricts the light spread but the perspex rain guard is on the drawing board and will soon be fitted.
8th July.... One of my favourite moths THE HERALD, I get two or three of these a year. 7th July... I like the varied ground colours of the forewings of this common visitor. I get the very pale ones mostly.
THE DUN-BAR 7th July... First appearance this year for PLEUROPTYA RURALIS, Mother of Pearl, a common large "micro"

I've no idea what this catty is. It was found crawling across the dining room floor, so no clues on food plant... 25mm long

2011 Garden totals:-

306 species...186 macro, 120 micro (1 micro pending)
