10th Oct 2013 ... Foul weather good for the Carpets

Rain, cold, blowing a gale.
Perfect night for one of the traps. Yeah right.
I thought I'd better put one on in case of a blow-in.
It's a surprise anything was on the wing at all but Red-green, Common Marbled and Garden Carpet somehow made it to the lights.
15 moths of 10 species was a good tally given the conditions.

9th Oct 2013 ... The North wind doth Blow

5+ degrees, and feeling very chilly in the stiff north wind.
A good blow and a cold snap is not always a bad thing in my garden at this time of year. It gets rid of the late summer stragglers and often produces a good moth for the year list.
Scarce Bordered Straw appeared in 2010 and 2011 during the first week in November during wet and windy conditions and both of those years were not good years for that species.
Large Wainscot was added to the garden tally and another Green-brindled Crescent was noted.
Very little else in the traps apart from stuff that was probably lurking in the nearby bushes, a residue from the previous night.

8th Oct 2013 ... Green-brindled Crescent

The traps have been very quiet this week which is surprising given the nice weather we have been experiencing of late.
Migrants have been invading the land on the southerly biased winds but that is all about to change from today with strong northerlies and a dip in temperatures heading our way.
Green-brindled Crescent was added to the garden year list last night ....
