The conditions were perfect early evening.
Warm, humid with cloud cover, prompting the micro moths to take flight in droves.
But the sky cleared and a big waning moon lit up the garden, the temperature fell from 19 deg down to 13 and the expected huge haul of macro moths didn't happen, in fact the micros outnumbered macros for the first time I can remember.
Of the macros, the pick of the crop were Dusky Sallow, Campion, Small Ranunculus, Buff-tip and Maiden's Blush.
45+ micros were logged with 6 being added to the year list including one site first.
411 ARGYRESTHIA GOEDARTELLA
945 AETHES CNICANA
216 NEMAPOGON CLOACELLA
273 BUCCULATRIX THORACELLA
147 NEMOPHORA METALLICA
1245 GRAPHOLITA JANTHINANA
all to be confirmed
Nemophora metallica is a site first after confirmation
Perfect for mothing at the moment!
ReplyDeleteIf I had a free night I would come up Home Wood again!
Monday night I trapped last and by god there were some micros! So a very similiar story here.
Cheers and a good catch.
Ben
I've still got a couple of pugs to get to Andy & Melissa for gen det so the last Home Wood visit may be a little higher.
