20th Nov, 2012 ... Garden Trap

A warm night produced a few moths, the first since the 15th Nov, mainly micros
Once again, the rain didn't seem to bother them.
A Pseudargyrotoza conwagana was a surprise as I had missed it in the Summer ? But checking the micro book I see they also fly in Sept and Nov.
9 moths of  7 species was a good result.......

1st May 2012 ...Gen det results...500 species reached.

The gen det results for 7 micro moths were received today from David Manning, county micro moth recorder.
5 garden first records were added with 1044 Acleris ferrugana bringing up the 500 species milestone for The Dells garden.
Bill D, if you are reading......great call on 890 Mompha jurassicella from 15th March.
Our micro man informs me that he hadn't seen this moth in the county in 40 years until one turned up in 2010 and a couple more have been ID'd since.
Bedfordshire was at the northern end of its range and signs are that it is spreading.

Overnight min. temp. 4.3 deg. calm, clear
The Spring equinox has now passed and the days will now be longer than the nights.
No surprises on the macro front last night but two micros may prove to be "garden firsts" when ID is confirmed.
If so, it will leave me just 3 short of 500 garden species......

My attempt at these is :-
0435 ... Zelleria hepariella
1044 ... Acleris ferrugana ......so it will be notana !

The top two pics show the Zelleria ? in it's near normal pose, which was difficult as the creature is frozen.
But it is a "head-downer" not a "sit-up-and-beg".
ID now confirmed...thanks to David Manning, Bedfordshire micro moth recorder, and Dave from east Kent.
AND 1044 Acleris ferrugana was correct on a 50/50...gen det D, Manning
