11th July 2014 ... Garden moths update

Last nights trap results.
Min temp 14.9 deg C
Brown-tail made it's 2014 appearance the previous evening followed by 3 more last night. Still no Yellow-tail to date.
5 Diamond-backed moths was a good tally for this tiny migrant and Small Ranunculus just keeps on coming.
Dusky Sallow, Mere Wainscot and Campion were present in the traps.
Sycamore, Poplar Grey and Grey Dagger (agg) represented the Acronicta family, Poplar and Privet were the only two Hawk-moths.
Silver Y, Shaded Broad-bar, Garden Carpet, Peppered Moth, Marbled Beauty, Small Waved Umber, Least Carpet and Dot Moth were amongst the Darts, Rustics and Underwings.
Double-striped and Bordered were the only Pugs, Bordered being a year tick.

Water Veneer usually come in hundreds, so it was odd that just one made an appearance.
Maybe 1000 will roll up tonight ...YF

5th July 2012... Wet traps !

I'm seriously thinking about building an Ark.
Both traps were soaking wet in the morning, but moth numbers were high.
9 Swallow- tailed Moths was a record count, the second Leopard Moth of the year, Brown-tail and a tiny Wainscot type, which I think is Mere Wainscot but I will consult the County recorders..... Wingspan = 25mm, give or take a mil, check it out, I may be well off track :-

I actually caught TWO of the above, but one died in the capture pot.
Mere or Small Wainscot would both be new moths for the site.
Confirmed by County recorders...1 male, 1 female Mere Wainscot.

Leopard Moth

6 new for year micros were added to the 2012 tally plus a few for ID.
I'm still using the old names at the moment, it's easier to check out UK moths if I need the BF number.

Phlyctaenia coronata

Pterophorus pentadactyla

Yponomeuta evonymella

Phycita roborella

Scoparia ambigualis and Aleimma loeflingiana were also new for year.

28/29th June 2011...Cooling Down

The past two days have been much cooler. Not much to report on the garden traps front, just one year tick and and a garden first maybe 2 following a Gen Det.... but that will be a couple of weeks or more away.
OEGOCONIA SP. I think this may be "quadripuncta" BROWN-TAIL 2029... first for year EUDONIA PALLIDA 1336... garden first, possibly overlooked in the past. Garden totals :-

296 species, 179 macro, 117 micro
