11th June ... Warmer weather ramps up garden moth catch

The last few nights have been rubbish, just too cold, but June is an unpredictable month weather-wise.
The warmer weather last night boosted the species count to 33 compared with 11 species on the 8th, 21 on the 9th and 15 on the 10th.

What is killing my Hawthorn saplings ? plus garden moth species for 4th June

Something is attacking my young Hawthorn trees !
I have never seen the likes of it before, it is like a ball of white, slimy, silky web with a brown end on it.
Has anyone seen or know what this is ?

Garden Moths for 4th June
12.3 deg. C. min. temp.
A warmer, humid night would have been perfect but for the bright near full moon.
To be fair, it is rising quite late in the evening so has no effect on the early flyers.
