Brrr ! It's June, so they say.

8th June 2015
The dire June weather seems to be deteriorating.
It is 22.50 hrs and I have just checked the two traps, jumper and coat on, it's 8 deg C and dropping, but feels more like 4 or 5 with a bitter NE breeze chilling it's way across the cold North Sea to the western reaches of East Anglia.
Absolute zero ... not the temperature but the moth count, so I hope there may be a few lurking in the egg boxes in the morning.
I'll probably find a few sitting around the lamps trying to keep warm !
Back in a few hours .........................

The temperature eventually bottomed out at 5.5 deg C and 19 hardy souls were found huddling in the egg boxes like winter tramps along the Thames embankment under their cardboard domiciles.
No micros were recorded which is very unusual for this time of year.

1st June 2014 .. Moth latest

The highlight of the day was during a nice sunny spell at 12.15pm when a Hummingbird Hawkmoth was observed feeding on a clump of Centranthus in the front garden.
No pics but unmistakable.
It stayed for about 5 mins before flitting off to feed on one of the self seeding plants that grow along my street and adjoining gardens.
Below ....
Centranthus, Red Valerian, a good plant for Hummers that flower before the Buddleia, another good bet for a Hummer

New additions to the garden year list :-
Dichrorampha acuminatana

Argyresthia pruniella

Cnephasia sp to be ID'd

Clouded Silver

Varied Coronet

Grey Pug

Burnished Brass
