A garden first record of Willow Ermine although this has probably been disregarded in the past in amongst the numerous Bird-cherry, Apple and Spindle Ermines.

The hot spell continues, the moth numbers have increased and a sudden busy spell at work means that I haven't had time to count and process everything in the traps.
Millions of Brown moths, too many.
Some notables .... 5 Clay was a high count and Lime, Elephant, Privet and Eyed made up the Hawk-moth catch.
Dingy Shears, Small Ranunculus, Sandy Carpet, Maple and Swallow Prominent were nice finds along with Early Thorn, Shaded Broad-bar and 5 huge Swallow-tailed Moths all standing out amongst the Brown horde.

20th July 2012 ... Quality beats quantity

Down to 8 deg last night, which is very cold for the time of year, although last July dropped to 7 at this time.
Numbers were well down in the traps, but a couple of quality macros arrived before it got too cold............

I was pleased to see Oak Eggar in the trap.
This beauty has turned up for the past 3 years now but only singletons (so far).
However, the one below has only made one previous visit, so even better .......

1st July 2011....2 new garden species

After a nights communial trapping at the RSPB headquarters, The Lodge, it was great to check the garden trap at around 3 am and find two new species.
RUDDY CARPET on the shed wall, below the 15 watt actinic fluorescent followed by...............

........ a very attractive PEACH BLOSSOM Garden totals :-

298 species....181 macro, 117 micro

Time and commitments have prevented us from doing a nights trapping in Home Wood for June, so tonight we are going to dump an MV skinner in there and collect in the morning.
