11th June 2014 .. Garden Moth Traps update

A full moon with litle or no cloud cover, but still warm and humid.
Not the ideal conditions but I still recorded 7 more species for the annual garden year list/ wine race.
Heart and Darts filled the traps with a high count of 38, add to that 3 Privet Hawk-moths and there was little room for anything else.
A massive Hornet was removed from one of the traps, quickly followed by another which was also gingerly removed before it decimated half of the trap contents.
A Maidens Blush flew out of the top trap, straight into a spider web, unfortunately the spider got the bite in before I could release it and it succombed shortly after.

27th June 2013 ... Catch report

Persistent rain was good for the garden but not for the traps. At least it was warm rain, which is how you define summer in GB.
I took the cover off from one of the traps at 23.30 hrs and it stayed reasonably dry until the morning with a fair catch within.
No regular patrols, which is normally very productive, especially for early evening micros, so catch is down on the last few days.

The gusty wind blew in some interesting moths to the garden last night, among them this CREAM-BORDERED GREEN PEA 2418

Don't know what this is...probably a Common Rustic agg. Size is ok.

Any suggestions (mothwise) welcome ?????????????????????

This one is a DOUBLE SQUARE-SPOT 2128, but a Triple-spotted Clay is easily missed as the markings are just about identical,,,see Matts blog, he's got pics of both. CELYPHA LACUNANA 1076 the wind kept the micro count well down last night.

8th June 2011...garden traps update

Quite a productive night with 2 garden firsts and 3 new for year moths trapped.
The blacklight flourescent in the patio window came up trumps as I potted a garden first FERN and a year first BARRED YELLOW by simply opening the door and leaning out with a specimen pot, I had to get out of my chair though.
