Garden trap latest - 1st March

At last a warmer night and a chance to put the traps on throughout the night.
4 moths caught :-
Emmelina monodactyla
Double-striped Pug
Common Quaker
and a year first Grey Shoulder-knot ...

Latest garden Moths

Moth numbers are increasing in the garden with the warmer nights although the strong gusting breeze and the large moon are doing their best to inhibit the nocturnal activity.
My garden tally is now 16 species compared to 11 species this time last year.
Common Quaker is now regular in the traps with Hebrew Character, and Agonopterix heracliana along with Emmelina monodactyla make up the majority of the micro catch.

Amblyptilia acanthadactyla was a new addition for the year on 5th March, difficult to spot on the brick wall near the trap.  Tortricodes alternella would have made the photo gallery but unfortunately it got badly crushed between pot and lid so no pic.

10 Early Grey and a Grey Shoulder-knot were amongst a decent tally last night.
2 x Early Thorn made a nice change from Orthosia species
Common Wasp has been recorded in the trap on 16th and 17th so I'm turning over the egg boxes with a little more caution as I check contents.
A Comma was added to the butterfly year on Sunday.

15th April ... Red Chestnut

Not as humid as last night but still warm at 8.4 deg C min. but with a gusting wind.
16 moths were counted, 7 of which were Common Plume.
Red Chestnut was a good find as I usually only get singles each year, rarely two.
